Everything that's fine for a spaniel stops working at 40kg. Here's what changes.
Weight changes the maths
A 10kg spaniel on an 8cm bed compresses it a little. A 45kg Labrador compresses it to nothing — and then they're lying on the floor with a cover over it. Depth has to scale with the dog, which is why this one starts at 18cm where most beds stop at 8.

Questions about the Orthopedic Cushion Bed
Is it genuinely orthopedic or just thick?
The core is foam particles — not solid foam, not polyester fibrefill. Foam particles conforms to your dog's individual shape rather than pushing back with the same pressure everywhere, and it springs back instead of taking a permanent set. At 18 to 21cm the floor never makes contact regardless of your dog's weight. Thickness alone doesn't do that — a thick fibrefill bed still packs down.
How big is it really? Will it fit in my room?
3XL is 120 × 95cm — roughly the footprint of a two-seater sofa, and about 20cm tall. XXL is 100 × 75cm and XL is 80 × 64cm. Worth measuring your floor space before ordering the 3XL. Most people end up putting it against a wall or in a corner.
My dog is an aggressive chewer. Will the Crystal Velvet hold up?
Crystal Velvet is durable against daily wear and claw contact, but it isn't chew-proof — no bed cover is. If your dog actively chews their bedding, supervise the first few days and keep an eye on the seams and edges, which is where a determined chewer starts. Dogs that chew out of boredom often stop once the bed becomes their settled spot; dogs that chew everything, won't.
Is it easy to clean?
The Crystal Velvet cover unzips and comes off completely. Cold wash, gentle cycle, tumble dry low or air dry flat. No bleach or fabric softener. The non-slip base wipes clean with a damp cloth, and the sponge core should be spot cleaned only — don't put it in the machine. For the XXL and 3XL covers a launderette machine is easier than a domestic one; there's more fabric than you'd think.
Can two dogs share it?
The 3XL at 120 × 95cm comfortably takes two medium dogs, or one large breed up to 50kg.
