Large Orthopedic Dog Bed — Deep Support and Room to Stretch for Big Breeds

Thin flat mats compress under the weight of a large breed within weeks. After that your dog is lying on the floor with a cover over it. The KovePaws Large Orthopedic Dog Bed is built for the other end of the scale — an 18 to 21cm profile of high-resilience Foam particles that contours to your dog's shape, springs back when they get up, and holds its depth under sustained weight. Wrapped in ultra-soft crystal velvet with a non-slip base, in three sizes from XL to 3XL.

Why the KovePaws Large Orthopedic Dog Bed Works

  • High-resilience foam particles core — conforms to your dog's shape rather than pushing back with the same pressure everywhere, and redistributes when they get up instead of taking a permanent set. Solid foam and polyester fibrefill both pack down. This doesn't.
  • 18 to 21cm deep — most beds are 5 to 8cm. At three times the depth, even a 50kg dog doesn't compress through to the floor.
  • XL to 3XL — surface areas from 80 × 64cm up to 120 × 95cm, so a large dog can extend fully without a leg hanging over the edge..
  • Ultra-soft crystal velvet cover — silky against short coats, durable against claws and daily movement, and it stays soft through repeated washing.
  • High-grip non-slip base — particle grip anchors the bed to hardwood, tile and laminate, so it doesn't slide when a big dog lands on it at speed.
  • Fully removable machine washable cover — the cover comes off completely for a cold wash. On a bed this size that matters more than it sounds.

Which Size?

Measure your dog nose to tail base while fully stretched out, not curled up.

  • XL  — 80 × 64 × 18cm  — dogs up to 17.5kg
Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Cockapoo, Border Collie
  • 2XL — 100 × 75 × 21cm — dogs up to 30kg
Labrador, Golden Retriever, Boxer, Dalmatian, Springer Spaniel
  • 3XL — 120 × 95 × 21cm — dogs up to 50kg
German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Doberman, Bernese Mountain Dog

When in doubt, size up. Big dogs sleep better with room to spare.

Perfect For

  • Large breeds — Cocker Spaniels and Border Collies in the XL; Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Boxers in the 2XL; German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Dobermans in the 3XL
  • Sprawling sleepers — dogs that extend fully and end up half off a standard bed
  • Heavy dogs — breeds that flatten a normal bed within weeks
  • Older dogs — somewhere deep and soft to rest, with nothing to climb over to get on or off
  • Hard floor households — dogs currently choosing hardwood, tile or laminate because their bed isn't any better than the floor

Which size should I choose?
Measure your dog nose to tail base while fully stretched out, not curled up.

XL (80 × 64cm) — dogs up to 17.5kg. Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, Staffie, Cockapoo.
2XL (100 × 75cm) — dogs up to 30kg. Labrador, Golden Retriever, Boxer, Dalmatian.
3XL (120 × 95cm) — dogs up to 50kg. German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Doberman.

When in doubt, size up.Will it flatten under a heavy dog?
Foam particles has much higher resilience than solid foam or fibre fill — it redistributes when your dog gets up rather than holding the dent. Under normal use it keeps its depth for years, not months. If a hollow does start forming where they lie, shaking and kneading the cushion redistributes the filling.

What if my dog doesn't take to it?
Put it where your dog already chooses to rest, not where you'd prefer they slept — big dogs in particular are creatures of habit about location. Give it a few days and let curiosity do the work. If it still isn't right, email support@kovepaws.com within 30 days and we'll make it right.

Sound familiar?

Is your dog sleeping on a bed that's failing them?

Too small to stretch out — legs hanging over the edge every night

Thin beds compress flat under a heavy dog within weeks

Ends up on the floor anyway, because the bed isn't any better

Stiff and slow to get up after a long rest

Why the Orthopedic Cushion Bed works

Big enough to stretch out. Deep enough to matter.

XL to 3XL — up to 120 × 95cm, enough to stretch right out

18–21cm of foam particles that springs back instead of packing down

Deep enough and soft enough that the floor stops being the better option

Weight spread across the whole body instead of concentrating on hips and elbows

Four things that make it work for a big dog

Four things that make it work for a big dog

XL · XXL · 3XL · 18–21cm core · Crystal Velvet · Free delivery

High-resilience orthopedic core

Premium foam particles conforms to your dog's exact shape rather than pushing back with one uniform pressure. Every time they lie down they get a slightly different fit, shaped to however they've landed.

18–21cm deep profile

Deep enough that even a 50kg dog doesn't compress through to the floor. Most beds are 5 to 8cm. This is three times that.

Cover unzips and washes

The Crystal Velvet cover comes off completely for a cold machine wash. On a bed this size that matters — big dogs shed a lot, and you don't want to be spot-cleaning 120 × 95cm forever.

Built for heavy breeds

Sized and filled for dogs from 17.5kg up to 50kg. The core holds its depth under sustained weight rather than bottoming out in the spot where your dog lies heaviest.

The science behind it

Why a big dog needs a different bed

Everything that's fine for a spaniel stops working at 40kg. Here's what changes.

1

Weight changes the maths

A 10kg spaniel on an 8cm bed compresses it a little. A 45kg Labrador compresses it to nothing — and then they're lying on the floor with a cover over it. Depth has to scale with the dog, which is why this one starts at 18cm where most beds stop at 8.

18–21cm, not 5–8cm
2

Room to lie flat out

Big dogs sleep stretched — legs extended, often on their side. A bed that only fits them curled up means they either sleep curled up or they hang off the edge. At 120 × 95cm a German Shepherd can lie fully out.

Up to 120 × 95cm
3

Why foam particles, not solid

A solid slab pushes back with the same pressure everywhere, so a heavy dog still lands hardest on hips and elbows. Foam particles moves — it shifts under the parts pressing down most and holds where they don't. Then it springs back rather than keeping the dent.

Conforms, then recovers

Real results

“We never could find a proper bed that was big enough for our boy so we always got those big blankets, no support, no cushioning. We finally found this large orthopedic bed that fits our dog and gives excellent support.”

What makes the Orthopedic Cushion Bed different

What arrives

The bed with the Crystal Velvet cover fitted. No pillow and no bolsters — this is a flat sleeping surface by design, for dogs that stretch right out. If your dog likes to rest their head on a raised edge, the Royal Orthopedic Sofa is the better fit.

Three sizes for large breeds

XL (80 × 64cm) for dogs up to 17.5kg. 2XL (100 × 75cm) up to 30kg — Labradors, Boxers, Golden Retrievers. 3XL (120 × 95cm) up to 50kg — German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans. Every dog gets the full stretch they need.

Crystal Velvet cover

Silky soft Crystal Velvet is gentle on sensitive skin and coats. Durable enough for daily use from dogs of all sizes — resists pilling, maintains softness, and stays looking premium wash after wash.

Non-slip base

High-grip particles on the base keep the bed locked in position on hardwood, tile, and laminate floors. No sliding when your dog jumps on — stays exactly where you put it.

Questions about the Orthopedic Cushion Bed

Is it genuinely orthopedic or just thick?

The core is foam particles — not solid foam, not polyester fibrefill. Foam particles conforms to your dog's individual shape rather than pushing back with the same pressure everywhere, and it springs back instead of taking a permanent set. At 18 to 21cm the floor never makes contact regardless of your dog's weight. Thickness alone doesn't do that — a thick fibrefill bed still packs down.

How big is it really? Will it fit in my room?

3XL is 120 × 95cm — roughly the footprint of a two-seater sofa, and about 20cm tall. XXL is 100 × 75cm and XL is 80 × 64cm. Worth measuring your floor space before ordering the 3XL. Most people end up putting it against a wall or in a corner.

My dog is an aggressive chewer. Will the Crystal Velvet hold up?

Crystal Velvet is durable against daily wear and claw contact, but it isn't chew-proof — no bed cover is. If your dog actively chews their bedding, supervise the first few days and keep an eye on the seams and edges, which is where a determined chewer starts. Dogs that chew out of boredom often stop once the bed becomes their settled spot; dogs that chew everything, won't.

Is it easy to clean?

The Crystal Velvet cover unzips and comes off completely. Cold wash, gentle cycle, tumble dry low or air dry flat. No bleach or fabric softener. The non-slip base wipes clean with a damp cloth, and the sponge core should be spot cleaned only — don't put it in the machine. For the XXL and 3XL covers a launderette machine is easier than a domestic one; there's more fabric than you'd think.

Can two dogs share it?

The 3XL at 120 × 95cm comfortably takes two medium dogs, or one large breed up to 50kg.
